Bathroom discrimination
I’m really fond of the 2008-2009 renovations made to St. Olaf’s Old Music Hall. But what’s up with the bathrooms? Due to the small size of the building, all restrooms are single-occupancy. And yet, they’re still gender-designated.
This is a practical inconvenience for everyone (I often have to go up or down a floor to pee), but also just a form of unnecessary discrimination. There are unisex single-occupancy restrooms in most dorms and in Buntrock Commons. What’s the point of excluding transgender students and making life more difficult for everyone else?
